As Winnie the Pooh so famously said, “Sometimes the littlest things take up the most room in your heart.” And as soon as I got to meet baby Nicholas, I knew that quote could never be truer! Mom and dad are so loving and adoring toward their tiny little boy, and it was a joy to work with them to include so many of their ideas in sweet Nicholas’s photo session!
FIRSTBORN & OH, SO LOVED
I don’t even need to point out the gazes of adoration on mom and dad’s faces as they look down at their very first little one. Newborn Nicholas rests oh-so-comfortably in his mom’s and dad’s arms as they show off their new arrival for portraits they can share with all their loved ones!
Mom and dad decided to coordinate the theme and colors of their session using natural colors and props that mix, match, and coordinate so well together. I’m thrilled to know they’ll have these artistic and creative photos scattered around their house to remind them of their newborn son’s first few days!
GATOR LOVE…CHOMPLY ADORABLE
This little man won’t be running around for a while, so for now he’s content to sleep contentedly with a protective and furry gator buddy by his side. Resting in a rustic bucket with wrought iron details, tiny Nicholas sleeps soundly on a pile of fluffy textured blankets that let him sink in just like he’s in a comfortable little nest.
This is such a cute way to add in baby toys and props you love—and for baby Nicholas’s family, it was about showing all the things that shout Baby Boy! You can even see a tiny smile on his face as he rests sweetly beside his furry buddy. This is a great photo to show off baby’s chubby cheeks, tiny little nose, and head full of hair, too.
You can also see how we stuck closely to the family’s neutral theme by highlighting wide plank floors, a dark wood bucket, and rustic iron. And by adding a sweet stuffie into the mix, we added a pop of color that really helps baby Nicholas stand out and have unique, true-to-him moments.
RUSTIC CHARM…PLUS-UP YOUR PHOTOS WITH GREAT PROPS
I know that life can get crazy…especially when you’ve welcomed a brand-new little one into your lives! But when thinking about setting up a professional newborn session, it’s so important to remember that even though he’s so tiny right now…babies don’t keep! They grow into laughing, giggling, toddling, playing little people who have so many different and unique personality traits. And while it’s so wonderful to watch them grow and learn, you never want to forget those first gentle moments.
POSING WITH A PRECIOUS HEIRLOOM & GIFT
Not only did this lovely and vibrant handmade quilt win top honors at a quilting competition, but it will now be a décor centerpiece in little Nicholas’s room. Made by a beloved acquaintance, highlighting this piece in their baby’s photo collection is a great way to preserve even more memories and honor the loved ones who are so excited at the arrival of baby Nicholas.
In contrast to the rest of his photos that feature neutral, earthy tones and nature-themed props, this bright quilt adds a perfect pop of color and changes things up with its happy pattern. Little Nicholas is wrapped in an ivory swaddle with coordinating blankets that will help this lovely photo coordinate with the family’s entire portrait collection.
By weaving a color and texture theme throughout their photos, it makes it easy to display them together or apart.
BLISSFUL DREAMS FOR BRAND-NEW BABY
Snuggled into the tiniest of beds, sweet Nicholas looks so restful and relaxed! I love how you can see so much of his hair in this portrait, too. It looks like he might have a little bit of feisty red in there, so watch out, world…this little guy is ready to take on whatever comes his way (just as soon as he’s done napping, of course!).
Here, he remains wrapped in his swaddle and is covered by a cream throw with a beautiful texture. By mixing and matching different fabrics, props, and backdrops in the same theme, we were able to get so many great photos of little Nicholas—without ever disturbing his slumber.

ALL TUCKED IN & CHASING DREAMS
Sweet Nicholas looks so precious and tiny snuggled under this oversized super-soft blanket. What a perfect way to draw the focus to his tiny features like his little button nose, his round cheeks, and his adorable little mouth.
By remaining true to our color palette, this soft throw pulls in plenty of texture with its fuzzy feel and its yarn-fringed edge, and it combines perfectly with baby Nicholas’s neutral wrap.
LITTLE BOY, OH SO PRECIOUS
Oh, those tiny fingers and toes! We removed Nicholas’s swaddle and let him relax into the shape of the fabric. You can see here how he effortlessly and naturally curls into that brand-new baby fetal position—a photo that will bring back so many memories as he grows! In a blink, it will seem like he’s scooting and crawling around the house, so this pose is a great reminder of how very tiny Nicholas was in his early weeks.
A BIT OF HEAVEN ON EARTH
With his tiny hands tucked beside his cheek, little Nicholas sleeps soundly on a super-soft surface with his bottom covered tastefully with a quick drape of his wrap. Another precious photo for parents to cherish, this one shows off his round baby tummy as he pulls his knees up to comfortably keep that curled-up newborn baby pose we all love!
BABIES BRING SO MUCH LOVE
This photo is worth those thousand words we always hear about! Lying in a heart-shaped bowl, Nicholas relaxes onto a tiny baby pillow to cushion his head as he sleeps. What a great way to share their love and adoration of baby by literally placing him inside a heart to capture these sweet photos.
REACH FOR THE SKY
I’ve saved the grand finale for the very end! The photo below was such a hit with mom and dad that they selected it more than any other photo to create keepsake memories in their home and to share. They loved the way Nicholas’s big personality is already showing in this photo! Whether he’s reaching for the stars or practicing watching the big game with dad, little Nicholas is absolutely adorable as he stretches his little arms and legs and raises a tiny fist into the air.
Candid shots like this one make great additions to your gallery wall at home…plus friends and relatives will love receiving this image as a photo gift. It shows so much of sweet Nicholas’s personality as he relaxes into a great-big stretch and lets his little hands and feet escape his wrap!
Shots like this one are exactly why a professional photographer is a MUST for your little one’s first photos! I’m always on the lookout for one-of-a-kind moments that parents will love showing off in portraits!
It’s always an honor to help new parents capture all the very first expressions and memories of their little one’s first weeks. I loved working with this family and am so thrilled to have been their professional photographer! It was so much fun helping them create unique portraits that celebrate their brand-new son.

I love that these new parents brought in a quilt with special meaning to add to their newborn photos. These baby pictures are something mom and dad will treasure for many years to come.
Andrea Sollenberger says
Mom and Dad will always love photos of their own baby, but it is even more special when they are a part of selecting all of the colors and textures surrounding their little angel. I always ask parents if they have sentimental pieces, handmade items for baby, or family treasures, that might bring added meaning to their photo gallery. When they do, the extra items become keepsakes that add special meaning to their newborn photos. Sop good to hear from you Brandi! Thanks for commenting!

You are right Michelle! It can be tricky to add in all the fun newborn props and accessories to accent sweet baby, but without taking the focus from baby himself. Sometimes keeping it simple is a sure way to let baby shine! I appreciate your comments and I am glad you loved this baby photo blog!
