It was such an exciting time for this brand-new mom and dad as they planned their newborn baby boy’s very first photo session! They contacted me and booked early to make sure they could get a spot on the calendar, which was a great idea, because we all know that babies don’t wait and those newborn moments only last for a few precious weeks before baby starts growing and learning new skills.
So with a date on the calendar and a precious baby boy on the way, mom and dad were eager to start planning their little one’s perfect photo session. In the photo below, their adoring gazes say it all as they gaze down on their precious bundle with all the love in the world in their eyes.
CAPTURING THE LOVE…SWEET SNUGGLES WITH MOM
Welcoming a newborn baby into the world is a moment filled with love, joy, and endless possibilities. And those heartfelt emotions are exactly what I want to capture in every single portrait.
In the below image, mom snuggles close to baby Oliver with a smile of contentment and joy on her face. Just by looking at this photo, you can imagine the sweet baby smells and the tiny coos and sighs that come from this happily resting little one. A professional photo session can freeze these fleeting moments in time, allowing parents to look back and always remember those precious and very special first weeks with newborn baby Oliver.
DAD’S LITTLE GUY
The thrill of welcoming your newborn baby into the world is unmatched, and it’s easy to see the joy on this dad’s face as he gazes down on his son. Precious Oliver, snugly swaddled in a creamy white wrap rests contentedly and safely in his daddy’s arms as his dad simply looks down and takes in all his new baby’s sweet features.
I love this image because it’s easy to see exactly how tiny little Oliver is as he is cradled closely, and it’s so sweet to see how easily his little head fits into his daddy’s hand. This is a moment of pure joy as dad gazes at his little boy, and it’s so heartwarming to capture it in a keepsake portrait the family can keep and share for years to come.
ADORABLE PROPS FOR BABY’S FIRST PHOTO SESSION
It’s always fun to sit down and plan a newborn photo session, and that was exactly the case with this young family! I was so excited to share with them the wide variety of wraps, swaddles, accessories, and props available at the Andrea Sollenberger Studio. And with everything from knit caps to rustic-style baskets at their fingertips, they were able to choose exactly the items and looks for their little one that would look exactly how they imagined their dream images to look!
I’m always adding to my collection of charming props that families can mix and match to help create the session of their dreams, and of course, I work with every family to lend an artistic eye along the way. For baby Oliver, we worked closely together to come up with a wide variety of unique earthy, sporty, baby-boy ideas that easily fit the family’s personality and style!
THE MAGIC OF CREATIVE OUTFIT CHANGES FOR NEWBORNS
You’ll notice there are not a lot of changes in the photo below compared to the previous rustic basket portrait, however, the magic of newborns is that you can do a lot simply by changing the color of their wrap or swaddle! By switching from off-white to light blue, the look completely changes, adding a vibrant pop of baby boy color directly to the center of this photo. This is a great way to change things up for a different look, to share the joy of a tiny baby boy with friends and family, or to coordinate with colors in a nursery or favorite room of the house.
I’m also able to change up looks for my little clients and give them lots of variety throughout their sessions by gently repositioning them, often as they keep right on sleeping! Little Oliver was no different, and he easily snoozed right through outfit changes. In every session, I do my best to weave every ounce of newborn enchantment into each detail, and one of my favorite things about the image below is that Oliver’s little hands peek out of the top of his wrap, showing off the tiny details of his nails and fingers.
CAPTURING THE SWEETEST LITTLE EXPRESSION
Could this little guy be any cuter? He’s absolutely adorable in a change to soft baby green as he wraps a tiny finger around his toe and appears to ponder his future antics and adventures! (Or maybe he’s just dreaming about teddy bears and future naps with mom…either way, he’s cute as a button as he nestles into a soft, furry throw.) Here, he’s wearing the softest knit cap that’s tied under his chin, adding yet a different look to this little guy’s photo collection.
I worked closely with Oliver’s mom and dad to ensure they would take home a professional portrait collection that not only captured the essence of their growing family’s joy, but that also fit into their décor style. I love to meet with clients ahead of time to learn as much as I can about their personal tastes and preferences so that when I’m doing my research and planning for their session, I can gather as many props and items as possible that they’ll love to incorporate into their baby’s portraits.
CAPTURING BABY’S BIG PERSONALITY
Oliver may be tiny right now, but he’s already got a huge personality! A fave all the way around, the photo below is sure to make you smile. As he lies in a vintage wooden bed next to a tiny teddy bear, he cracks the most adorable, impish grin that’s a sneak peek to a few of the little boy antics he’ll be getting into all too soon!
By layering a variety of textures and fabrics, I was able to get an artistic, one-of-a-kind look in this portrait, framing sweet Oliver with all the cutest, softest baby boy things. By offsetting the rustic wooden bed and wide plank flooring with super-soft, plush fabrics, the image becomes an elegant piece of art that can be hung in any room of the home. And just imagine the smiles every time someone passes by this heart-melting portrait!

ADD JOY WITH MEANINGFUL PROPS
It’s fun to add props to baby’s session that are both playful and meaningful to the parents. Oliver’s mom and dad did this in so many creative ways, and not only is this fun in the moment, but it’s a great way to add joy as baby grows up, too, and mom and dad look back on those first early days of introducing him to the things that are meaningful to them.
Precious Oliver is adorable sporting the tiniest version of mom and dad’s alma mater in stocking cap form. He’s sound asleep now, but he may just be the next great Georgia Bulldog player or scholar when he wakes up. If he follows in his mom and dad’s footsteps, he’ll be well on his way…after all, he’s already got the swag!
THERE’S SO MUCH IN A NAME
This outfit change required only the swap of a cap, and little Oliver was camera-ready in a snap! Nestled cozily in an open wrap that shows off all that brand-new baby skin, along with adorable fingers, toes, and a dreamy sleeping expression, this little guy sports a long stocking cap with his name embroidered on the front.
I love when parents bring in their own adorable accessories and props to add to their little one’s session because it adds even more of a personalized touch to their portraits. This is another great image to share with family and friends to introduce sweet Oliver to the world!
CREATIVE NEWBORN STYLING WITH PROPS
As you browse my online portfolio, be sure to take a look at the wide variety of props that families choose to use in their little ones’ sessions! I believe that photo props aren’t just accessories; they are a way of telling the story of your little one’s arrival, and they help to capture the essence of your family’s joy.
It’s fun to place baby in a variety of baskets and cozy nests to change things up. Often, parents select heart-shaped baskets to convey a sense of love or woven baskets for a natural look that matches their own personal style. And it’s always fun to accessorize little ones with hats and wraps that add to their adorable newborn sweetness. Small toys or mementos are also great ways to add personality to your baby’s portraits. For some amazing inspiration, here are a few blogs where some of my favorite outfits and props were used!
Meet sweet Elias and his family.
Meet Naleah Rose, surrounded by flowers and all things baby girl.
Meet precious Paxton whose mommy and daddy love playing music.
The sky’s the limit when it comes to creativity for your little one’s newborn photos. Let’s work together to make sure we capture the happiness of your family’s new arrival and your own unique style.
It was so much fun and such an honor to work with this young family and help them create treasured keepsakes of their baby boy. Little Oliver will grow up fast and strong, but mom and dad will always have his adorable newborn photos to look back on and remember his very first tiny moments.
