It feels like it was just yesterday when this gorgeous mama, Llani, was in the studio for her maternity photo session and looking forward to the arrival of this precious little nugget, alongside her husband and now brand-new daddy, Jonathan. I couldn’t be more excited for these brand-new parents, and I was over the moon to meet their newborn daughter when it was time for her very own professional photo session!
Just a few short weeks ago, Llani was glowing in front of the camera as she awaited her little one, and she was, of course, as lovely as ever. BUNDLE OF JOY FOR MOM & DAD
Llani and Jonathan are happy as can be at the arrival of their baby girl, and when we were planning their newborn session, they were eager to include all things feminine and girly in her photos. I pulled out all the stops, and from delicate floral headbands to soft swaddles and wraps, we worked together to thoughtfully choose every detail to ensure this little princess ended up with the perfect collection of portraits to display and share.
Mom and dad hold their little girl together in the photo below, and wearing a pretty pink floral headband, there’s no doubt she’s the prettiest flower in the garden!
MOMMY’S SWEET BABY GIRL
It’s beautiful to see the bond of a family grow through the arrival of a newborn, and for Llani and Jonathan their little girl marks the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in their lives together. Much loved and eagerly anticipated, mama holds her tiny bundle just under her chin in the photo below, sharing a close snuggle and taking in all the sweet baby smells that newborns bring.
SWEET KISSES FROM DADDY
With a gentle kiss on her forehead, dad assures his little one that he’ll always be there as her protector and biggest fan. The loving look on his face as he leans forward to share a sweet moment with his baby girl makes it clear that this daddy-daughter bond is already strong and getting stronger by the second!
LEGACY OF LOVE…TENDER MOMENTS WITH GRANDMA
It’s always a joy when grandparents are able to participate in newborn photo sessions. In this picture, grandma’s tender embrace is full of love, and her happy expression says it all. She’s celebrating all the way down to her pink fingernails that perfectly coordinate with the baby girl theme of the photo session. This grandma is certainly thrilled at the new addition to the family, and there is sure to be some spoiling in the future for her new baby granddaughter!
When you’re able to capture generational photos and make them a part of your portrait collection, it makes it even more special because as your little one grows up, they will always be able to look back and remember those early days when grandma doted on them and spent hours playing and telling stories. STYLING THE PERFECT NEWBORN BABY GIRL PHOTO SESSION
It’s always wonderful when I’m able to welcome repeat clients, especially when I’m able to meet a much-anticipated little one after a maternity session. Because I had already worked so closely with mom and dad before their precious baby girl arrived, I was able to learn quite a bit about what they were looking for when the time came for her very own studio session.
Llani and Jonathan wanted to celebrate the arrival of their little girl with flowers, pearls, lace, pastel pink, and all things feminine—and we leaned toward neutral backgrounds to ensure she would be the star of the show in every image.
FROM BUMP TO BABY…COMPLEMENTARY PORTRAIT GALLERIES FOR THE HOME
A big benefit for mom and dad, after having a previous session with me, is that now they’ll have two seamlessly coordinated sets of portrait galleries that perfectly complement their personal tastes and can be used to enhance their home décor. After all, the best wall art is the kind that represents a family’s journey of love.
In the photo below, their sweet baby girl is posed on her tummy with her hands beneath her chin to show off a dazzling view of her perfect little face. She’s relaxed as can be as she snoozes through her session, and resting on a soft surface wearing only a pink flower crown, she looks content to stay where she’s at all day long!

This portrait is a stunning representation of the beauty of motherhood and the power of love that takes over when a little one arrives. Llani is gorgeous post-pregnancy, and her look of pure serenity as she holds her baby girl close tells the story of a mama’s heart that is full of unending love.
As her little girl grows, these two will be peas in a pod, likely sharing mani-pedi days, swapping funny stories, and shopping until the sun goes down. For now though, mama is perfectly happy just holding her baby girl and feeling the happiness and joy she brings.
PRETTY BABY GIRL IN A BASKET
It is so much fun to style newborn portraits, and that’s because there are so many creative and cute options! Swaddled and cozy, newborn babies love to be snuggled softly into cozy, lined baskets, and it’s easy to layer in lots of fabrics to add texture to your images this way, too. Below, Llani and Jonathan’s little girl is wrapped snugly in pastel pink and rests in a woven basket that’s lined with a fuzzy throw. More neutral tones and textures can be found in the rustic plank flooring, and when it all comes together, this portrait is an artistic way to show off the tiniest member of their family.
In a pastel pink swaddle with the sweetest little pearl accents and a coordinating stretchy headband, she’s the picture of delicate femininity. What a pretty picture to share with relatives or to hang in a nursery to make baby girl feel right at home!

There’s a hint of a smile dancing on this precious baby girl’s lips in the portrait below, and it’s absolutely precious! Since newborns are sleepy most of the time and their expressions are unpredictable, I have a surefire way of capturing smiles like this…and I’m ready to let you in on my secret. Ready?
The only way to do it is to be camera-ready at ALL times, be on your toes, and have a little bit of luck, too! Honestly, I love capturing newborn smiles, but they can be as elusive as unicorns, so I’m always on the lookout for them. Little ones are dreamers (with all that sleep, they have to be!), and it’s so much fun to catch the fun and quirky expressions they make when they are dreaming. Every now and then, that results in an adorable smile like the one below…how cute is that?!

THE ESSENCE OF INNOCENCE…THE SLEEPIEST & SWEETEST POSES
When families are in studio, my focus is on capturing moments of pure joy, those moments that transcend the everyday and serve as reminders of the beauty of brand-new beginnings. Sweetly innocent, this photo captures Llani and Jonathan’s little girl as she rests gently covered by a light wrap, showing off soft baby skin and her soft, peach-fuzz hair. With gently closed eyes and a relaxed expression, she is a vision of newborn charm.
As you look through her photos, you’ll notice I was able to change her looks by swapping a few small things like headbands, wraps, and accessories so I didn’t have to disturb her sleep as I went about my work with the camera. At the end of the session, she was a happy baby—and mom and dad were thrilled that we were able to get a wide variety of baby girl-themed portraits.
I am beyond grateful when I have clients I am able to see through maternity photos all the way to the arrival of their newborn. It is an exciting time in their lives with so many things changing all at once, and I’m honored to be able to help them capture all of their joy and momentous news in pictures.
