This week, I am overjoyed to share sweet baby Piper’s newborn photo session. New parents Heather and John are wonderful repeat customers. After a visit for maternity photos while expecting their gorgeous little girl, they were no strangers to my Gainesville, FL photography studio.
This brand new family absolutely glows with the love they feel for their firstborn child. Piper’s session was full of joyous sighs, loving excitement and all the best kinds of overwhelm. It was truly an honor to work with this beautiful family as they begin their journey together.
Sweet Baby Girl Photography
Baby Piper was named after Heather’s beloved late grandmother, whose last name was Piper. It was incredibly difficult for Heather to lose such a special lady in her life. She found great comfort in naming her baby girl Piper in honor of Grandma, who was able to hear of this plan before she passed away in hospice.
Little Piper looks absolutely darling surrounded by a soft peach, pink and creamy white color palette. Delicate florals and soft, yet warm colors complement Piper’s gorgeous newborn skin beautifully. As part of their newborn photo session, I was able to capture both Heather and John individually with their little girl, as well as creating a gorgeous professional family portrait of them all together.
Heirloom Props for Baby Photos
While I keep my newborn photography studio fully stocked with newborn essentials, baby props, baby outfits and baby wraps, new parents are always welcome to personalize a session with items from home.
Heirloom baby props provide a wonderful opportunity to honor sentimental family connections or start new traditions. I adore the way a gift from a grandparent or a toy that’s been passed down for generations can help include family members who may not be present during a session. Of course, it’s always so special when they can help honor those who have passed on.
Keepsake Furniture Baby Photo Props
When I asked Heather if they had any important sentiments to bring into their session — aside from their love for Piper, of course — she immediately had a wonderful prop idea.
She has taken excellent care of a stool that her grandfather made for her. She got much use out of it as a toddler and it holds special sentimental value for their family. She told me it would mean so much to her if Piper could use it not only as a toddler’s stool, but as a newborn prop.
The result is stunning. Heather’s chair became a baby cradle for Piper! Adorned with florals, a textured woven blanket and sweet little Piper in a lace baby wrap, the stool made for a gorgeous piece of keepsake furniture that now has a whole new meaning.
Heirloom Items for Baby Photography
While including old family heirlooms in newborn photography is a beautiful way to connect to the past, new parents can also start their own traditions as a way to connect to their future as a family unit.
Popular heirloom items for sweet photos in a newborn session include the following:
- Handmade blankets
- Jewelry
- Preserved baby clothes
- Generational toys
- Handmade toys
- Sports team memorabilia
- College/university alma mater memorabilia
- Flags, traditional garb or other symbols depicting family heritage
- Items that honor family professions
- Items that illustrate shared family passions
I certainly welcome new parents to incorporate meaningful items into a session. A little bit of planning goes a long way, especially when it comes to selecting color palettes that complement the desired style and tone of a newborn photo shoot.
