Imagine welcoming not one, but TWO, little bundles of joy into the world at the same time! When you first receive the news, it’s double the excitement and double the sharing of good news with everyone. And it quickly also becomes double the planning and double the stocking up—on diapers and bottles and blankies and more.
In the whirlwind of planning for your twins to arrive, one of the most fun and rewarding things you can do is brainstorm ideas for your little ones’ newborn baby photo session. At the Andrea Sollenberger Studio, I’ll be here to walk you through every step of the planning and preparation of your session, but lots of new parents find that it’s fun to tap into their creative spirit and come up with ideas that fit their own unique style.
In the photo below, Kiersten and Jonathan pose with their newborn twins Isla and Walker in an adorable pose. Gazing down at the tiny little brother and sister, dad carries them both in the crook of his arm in the cutest little double stack you’ve ever seen as mom and their big brother look on with adoring smiles.
KEEPING FAMILY CLOSE AT HEART
When you add family to your kiddos’ professional photo session, you’re making a statement about the importance you place on extended family and on caring for each other. In the sweet photo below, grandma joins in the fun and poses with big brother and tiny Isla and Walker in a tranquil, all-smiles portrait that’s sure to find a prominent spot in the home.
The memories you create at your professional photo session will last long past the day we take your portraits. By including additional family members in your session, you’re letting them know how important they are to you and that they hold a special place in the heart of your family.
BONDING WITH BIG BROTHER
They may outnumber him, but that’s ok…he’s got an arm to wrap around each of his newborn baby siblings. As their big brother, he’ll serve as their mentor, their protector, and of course, their guide to silliness and shenanigans. But for now, he looks proud as can be just to pull baby Isla and baby Walker in close and give them a protective big-brother hug as he shares a proud and happy grin with the camera.
Since safety is always number one at the Andrea Sollenberger Studio, you’ll notice that any time I photograph my tiniest clients with siblings who are still young themselves, there’s always a soft, squishy surface underneath them. By placing little ones either low to the floor or on the floor, on top of a plush, comfortable throw, it’s easier to keep them safe from the possibility of a fall or bump.
GAZING AT TINY FINGERS & TINY TOES
As mom gazes lovingly at her brand-new babies, her relaxed and serene smile says it all. She is fulfilled and happy with her precious family, and as she takes in all those tiny details of Isla and Walker, it’s easy to see how in love she is with her new little ones. This portrait shows off the tiniest fingers and toes as both brother and sister are swaddled and stacked in mom’s arms. Their little cheeks are adorably round, and as Isla tucks her little hands beneath her cheek, they’re both off to dreamland snuggled safe and sound in mom’s arms.
HIPPITY-HOP, NAPPITY-NAP LITTLE BUNNIES
There is a unique and unseen bond that forms between twins before they are even born. It’s not unusual to hear stories of twins who inexplicably feel what the other twin is feeling, even when they aren’t physically connected. It’s heartwarming to know that these two sweet bunnies will be there for each other through all of life’s ups and downs…and as they grow up big and strong.
In the photo below, these adorable twins wear pink and gray coordinating bunny hats and hold tiny matching bunnies in their hands as they lay sleeping contentedly beneath a soft-as-a-cloud gray tasseled blanket. I love how these sweet bunny hats highlight their round little faces and how their tiny fingers are highlighted as they hold their little bunnies in their hands. Each of these little details will become a memory this family will cherish as their little ones grow into toddlerhood and beyond.

PRETTY AS A POSEY
When you’re lucky enough to welcome two baby girls into the world at the same time, you want to color the world PINK! And that’s what Cora and Violet’s parents did…with this newborn portrait, that is. This is just such a joyful portrait, and the girls are so delicate and dainty wrapped in their pink swaddles with coordinating headbands. Laying in the center of this pretty floral wreath, they look so sweet as they sleep with their tiny fingers escaping right beneath their chins. A muted pastel backdrop adds to all the pretty feminine detail in this portrait.
CHERISHED NEWBORN TWIN MOMENTS
The Andrea Sollenberger Studio specializes in capturing heartwarming newborn moments. I’ve worked with many sets of twins, and over time, I’ve learned a few things that work really well with twins, as well as a few tricks of the trade that help things go smoothly! For example, if we are planning a more complicated shot, like posing the babies together unwrapped or trying to get them to hold hands, I’ll usually try to get those more difficult poses out of the way first—before there’s a chance of either one of the babies getting too tired of what we’re doing! And I always go into every session with an organized plan of attack that keeps me on track through every photo and outfit change.
In the adorable photo below, Cora and Violet snuggle closely together in a miniature baby bed under a regal purple crocheted blanket. Each wrapped in a pretty eggplant purple swaddle, the girls look angelic as they snooze easily through their session.
PRETTY IN PURPLE
A close-up gives us a look at the pretty floral headbands the girls are wearing as they nap. Tiny hands escape their wraps to cup their cheeks while Cora and Violet sleep cheek to cheek, dreaming about all the fun sister antics they’ll get up to very soon…just as soon as they get mobile!
These tranquil newborn moments will soon give way to noisy toddler days and even busier big-kid times filled with appointments and games and school days. It’s so important to capture these peaceful, early moments of the girls’ lives in keepsake photos so that everyone can look back and recall their very first weeks of calm and restful newness with the family.
TUMMY TO TUMMY…I’VE GOT YOU, SIS
As Cora and Violet rest on this soft pastel pink surface, they sleep soundly and share a sweet hug that seems to comfort them as they dream. Twins are often comforted by the presence of their sibling, and especially in times of distress, they are there to soothe them.
The girls look content in the portrait below, and it’s a sweet close-up of their tiny facial features, which will start to change all too soon as they start to grow. Right now, it’s so sweet to see their little closed eyes, tiny noses, and Cupid’s bow mouths, and their sprinkling of peach fuzz hair is absolute perfection! I love that you can even see the little wrinkles in their arms as they snuggle close for this adorable portrait that would look stunning in the nursery!
REGAL & RESTING UP FOR FUN
The two sisters share a mini antique baby bed for this next shot, and it’s just as cute as all the others! Each sleeping with her head at a different end if the bed, they are surrounded by lush greenery against a deep, rich purple backdrop. Both girls are swaddled in coordinating burgundy swaddles and wear matching floral headbands for an added feminine touch.
NAKED BABIES…CREATIVE & MODEST APPROACHES
It’s traditional to have a naked baby picture taken. I can remember all the way back to our parents’ days of pulling out the old adhesive-page albums, and there we were…in all our glory. If we were lucky, we got a rubber ducky or a bathtub for a bit of modesty!
Boy, have things changed. Now, the artistic eye that drives the rest of a photo collection is also behind the naked baby photos, and that means that those too are modest, creative, and stunning pieces of art for the home.
BABY SISTERS…SKIN TO SKIN
Is there anything better and more comforting than the feel of your own sister, especially after you’ve spent the past nine months alongside her in mom’s tummy? Probably not. In fact, just looking at how comfortable and content these girls look right now, it’s fairly easy to say that this skin-to-skin portrait is a warm reflection of how close they have been growing to each other over the past several months.
Wearing nothing but coordinating headbands as they lay on their tummies, overlapping each other on the studio’s super-soft neutral surface, these sisters opt for a bottoms-up nap, showing off their birthday suit style in a modern and modest way that’s absolutely adorable.
A SHORT NAP IN THE FOREST
The bold and royal colors used in this portrait are eye-catching and will make a lovely display in a home office or study. With a dark purple background, the twins are centered in a circle of lush grass-like texture that makes it look just like they’re asleep in the forest, accented by sprigs of teal, purple, and green flowers. A visual showstopper, this portrait grabs the attention and immediately draws the eye toward the focal point of the twins in the center of the grass circle.
FOCUS ON THE DETAILS
It’s easy to focus on all of the cute accessories and props that make a photo session fun, but in a photo like the one below, the twins steal the show by taking center stage and needing nothing but their tiny headbands as accessories. On a neutral beige bed and covered with a soft and stretchy sheet of the same color, our eyes are drawn immediately to these adorable twins and their perfect, tiny features. The artistry of this portrait is in the peaceful contentment you can practically feel just by looking at the twins as they sleep soundly side by side.
TUTU PRECIOUS FOR WORDS
It was so much fun to put together the purple and teal color theme that this family decided on. What a fun and fabulous palette to highlight their little ones and really make sure they stand out in any setting. And what better way to convey their joy than that with bright and vibrant colors!
In the fabulous photo below, the girls lay in a stacked position on their tummies dressed in extra-puffy tulle tutus with big satin bows. These sisters are sure to love knowing just how close they were from their earliest days, and they’ll love looking back at their newborn photos to see all the memories that were captured when they were at their tiniest.
It has been such an honor to work with each of these families and to get to know the personalities of each of their little ones. Many of my clients return for milestone photo sessions, and it’s an absolute treat to see the kiddos as they’ve grown and developed over the months! Stay tuned to the blog to see how much some of these little ones have changed in just a few months.
